If a person has ever gotten an internal, or even an external, hemorrhoid, he or she knows how horrible it can be, especially if left untreated. Treating hemorrhoids does not have to be an expensive option that involves going to the doctor for a medical procedure. There are ways to treat it at home, mainly with herbs. There are many types of hemorrhoids herbal remedies, ranging from pain relief to reduction of vein swelling. Some common herbal remedies include aloe gel, dandelion, butcher's broom, and psyllium seed. All herbal remedies for hemorrhoid treatment work by either lessening the pain and itching, softening stools, or reduction of vein swelling.

The most common hemorrhoids herbal remedy for reducing vein swelling is known as horse chestnut. This herbal remedy helps out by increasing the elasticity of the blood cells and thereby helps to reduce swelling. However, it should not be taken in its pure form because it is a toxin that destroys blood cells. Rather horse chestnut remedies are taken in a diluted form to prevent any toxins from killing a person. However, a person should consult with his or her doctor before taking a horse chestnut remedy.

Another common hemorrhoid herbal remedy is known as aloe gel. This is an herb that is in a gel form and applied topically to help relieve pain and burning. Closely related, in terms of relieving pain, is butcher's broom which is also applied topically. Butcher's broom also helps blood circulation, which can help treat hemorrhoids by spreading the circulation of blood throughout the body instead of having it contained in a small area.

One of the main symptoms, and causes, of hemorrhoids is constipation. Constipation is usually caused by dried stool moving through the bowels as well as unnatural bowel movement. The hemorrhoids herbal remedy psyllium seed can help by coating and soothing the bowel linings. This will help allow the stool to move through the bowels more smoothly and prevent constipation. No constipation means less chance of getting hemorrhoids.

As always, before taking any herbal remedy, it is important to consult one's physician to make sure that you are able to safely take the remedy. Some herbal remedies, such as horse chestnut, are not FDA approved, and therefore are taken at a person's own risk. Regardless, hemorrhoids herbal remedies are an alternative way to treat hemorrhoids without having to go to the doctor for treatment.
