Inside Facts About Whiplash

Posted on 5:05 AM by Admin

If you have ever been in any car accident than you are likely to suffer from a low speed injury called Whiplash. Many car owners and those who have been involved in car accidents suffer from this injury. In fact there are thousands and hundreds of victims every year that suffer from whiplash but the data does not show much information about how much is the actual figure for such injuries. Whiplash is quite painful and though it is not life-threatening it can be fatal at times and cause permanent problems to some victims.

Basically it's a soft tissue injury when the head is thrown forward and than thrown backwards immediately in rapid motion. This rapid and violent movement of tissues around the neck causes extreme tension in the soft tissues around the neck and the spinal cord leading to permanent and temporary damages in that area. Many might think that wearing seat belts would help them avoid injuries like whiplash but that is absolutely wrong. Whiplash still occurs as your head is still thrown forward and backward rapidly when the car stops abruptly or if another car has crashed in from the rear.

Those who are suffering from permanent damages in the neck area may experience neck pain. Some of the symptoms of whiplash are swelling in the neck, shoulder pain, back pain, neck stiffness and frequent headaches. Though the doctors might reveal to you that you are suffering from whiplash injuries there is no direct medication for whiplash and it takes time for the muscles and tissues to heal which means that the victims have to bear the pain for quite some time.
