Learning the Facts About Hemorrhoids Operation

Posted on 1:02 AM by Admin

When the constant trouble of having hemorrhoids, and dealing with the irritation, itching, bulging outside the anus becomes too much to tolerate any more, it is time to take a more drastic approach. The dreaded word hemorrhoids operation will enter the ensuing conversation you have with your physician. The more positive side of the conversation these days is that you have more options, from scierotherapy, a temporary and non-invasive alternative, to the common hemorrhoidectomy.

One consideration is always the extent of the hemorrhoids you have. If you have a light case, or Grades 1 to 3hemorrhoid, your options are more diverse. The Grades are determined in this way: Grade I hemorrhoid has no outside protrusion; Grade II hemorrhoid protrudes but recedes on its own; whereas Grade III hemorrhoids sometimes bleed and although do not recede on their own, do retract when gently pushed inside; Grade IV hemorrhoids are visibly present all the tine, hang down below the anus, and bleed a lot..

The least invasive would be Sclerotherapy, where your hemorrhoid is injected with sclerosant, a solution that destroys some of the internal lining of the mucosa and the vein is sealed off, resulting in shrinking and dissolving of the hemorrhoid or it falls off without actual hemorrhoids operation. Keep in mind that this is a temporary procedure, and may recur within the year. This would be appropriate for Grades I to III hemorrhoids.

Laser/Infrared coagulation is also an option for the first three Grades. It is a permanent procedure. Laser or Infrared is used to cauterize the affected tissues. Recovery is short, and has little to minimal pain or discomfort

A similar procedure, for Grades I to IV is Hemorrhoidolysis. Mild or weak electrical currents applied to the protrusions cause the hemorrhoids to shrink permanently and completely. The procedure lasts just a few minutes, although usually needs to be repeated 2 more times for complete elimination. It is the only recognized Pain Free cure for hemorrhoidal disease.

Last option for hemorrhoids is a hemorrhoidectomy. Because this is an actual surgery, with cutting and removal of the hemorrhoid, the recovery is longer, and the recovery pain may be severe. It is recommended only for Grade IV hemorrhoids. Incontinence issues may arise in the future, sometimes because of the loss of some sensation in that area.
